Spark Kit

Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about Spark Kit, the measurement calculator for Shopify. Still stuck? Get in touch and a real person will help.

What does Spark Kit do?

Spark Kit adds a measurement calculator to your product pages. A shopper enters their measurements, for example a room size, and sees a live price and the right quantity to buy, then adds it to their cart in one step. It is built for products sold by area, length, volume, or the box: flooring, tile, wallpaper, paint, fabric, soil and mulch, pool treatments, banners, and more.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You answer a couple of quick questions and Spark Kit builds the calculator for you, including the math. You can rename the fields and adjust the wording afterwards. Adding it to your store is a couple of clicks in your theme editor, with nothing to paste in.

Will it work with my theme?

Yes, as long as you are on a current Shopify theme that supports app blocks (any Online Store 2.0 theme, which includes Dawn and almost every theme in the Shopify Theme Store from the last few years). You place the calculator on your product page from your theme editor, and you can move it wherever you like on the page.

How does it know what to charge?

The price always comes from your own product price in Shopify, so the total a shopper sees is exactly what they pay at checkout. For products sold by the box or bag, you tell Spark Kit how much one box covers, and it works out how many boxes the shopper needs and multiplies by your price. Nothing about your pricing is copied or kept somewhere else that could drift out of date.

Can I have a different calculator for different products?

Yes. You can set one calculator as the default for every product, and you can give specific products their own calculator. Each product page shows the right one automatically.

What is coverage, and do I have to set it?

Coverage is how much one unit covers: the square feet in one box of flooring, or the area one bag of soil fills. It is a number on the calculator itself, so you set it once and can tune it any time in the editor; the calculator uses it to turn a shopper's measurements into the number of boxes or bags to buy. If your products come in different box sizes, give each group its own calculator. Calculators that price purely by size or length, for example fabric cut to length, do not need coverage at all.

Can it price made-to-measure items cut to any size?

Yes. For products priced by the exact size a shopper enters, for example a banner or fabric by the yard, Spark Kit shows a live price for their measurements and carries that price through to checkout. Some made-to-measure setups rely on a Shopify checkout feature available on Shopify Plus and on development stores; Spark Kit will tell you in the app if a calculator needs it.

Will the calculator match my store’s look?

Yes. It uses clean, neutral styling out of the box, and you can adjust the colors and style to match the rest of your store. This step is optional.

Will it slow down or break my product pages?

No. The calculator is built to stay out of the way of the rest of your page. If anything is ever missing or misconfigured, it simply does not appear, rather than showing an error or affecting the rest of your page.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The calculator is responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktops.

How much does it cost, and is there a trial?

Spark Kit is $14.99 per month and starts with a free trial. You are not charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel any time. The calculator shows on your storefront while you are subscribed, including during the trial.

What happens if I cancel?

The calculator stops showing on your storefront, and your product pages go back to normal. Your calculators and settings are kept, so they are ready again if you come back.
